Title: North Gate, 1951
idk
Description: This is the North Gate of Fort Huachuca circa 1951, just before re-opening.

Fort Huachuca was established in 1877 during the Indian Wars. During World War II, the post housed over 30,000 troops. At war's end, the fort was declared surplus and transferred to the state of Arizona. It was then reactivated during the Korean War. A new era at the fort began in 1954 when control passed to the chief signal officer. It's importance grew from that point as it focused on strategic communications and intelligence.

The fort plays an important part in the history of Huachuca City because of its close proximity to the town and the fact that many of its past and present residents were connected to the fort in some capacity.
